Jim Carrey Just Keeps Getting Weirder As He Moves From Actor To Graffiti Artist

Jim Carrey

The neighbors couldn’t help noticing Jim Carrey’s unusual behavior.

After acquiring an enormous, industrial workspace in New York’s tony West Village six or so months ago, the megabuck movie comedian began appearing around the neighborhood in paint-spattered cutoffs, keeping vampire’s hours, and toiling late into the night behind a giant roll-down garage door, aided by a small cadre of hipster studio assistants.

Then, one afternoon in early September, Carrey decided to take his work to the streets. Armed with several cans of vibrantly hued spray paint, the rubber-faced funnyman set to work creating a graffiti “tag” on his studio door—the stenciled silhouette of a wild-haired figure seated Indian style and levitating inside a sperm-shaped bubble accompanied by the cryptic initials “F.F.C.”

“I thought that was pretty odd,” recalled West Village resident Stuart Matz, who witnessed Carrey painting the piece. “There’s a lot of odd shit in this neighborhood, but that’s definitely the weirdest. Why would Jim Carrey need to tag?”

In the aftermath of many poorly reviewed films, some of them out-and-out flops, and a messy 2010 breakup with his longtime girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, Carrey has apparently moved beyond chewing scenery on studio back lots and clocking $25 million a movie toward a new mode of creative expression.

Although there is no indication that Carrey plans to give up his baroque brand of physical screwball or his movie career anytime soon, it seems he’s found a new mojo—his #BOING, as the comedian obliquely refers to this new state of bliss on his Twitter feed. Carrey is reinventing himself as an artist.

When New York City anti-graffiti workers whitewashed Carrey’s tag last month, he took the affront seriously enough to respond by creating an even bigger mural (similarly featuring his seated levitating figure) with an attached message: “This graffiti [sic] reapplied pursuant to ordinance F.F.C.” And the actor spoke briefly with TMZ to explain his M.O.

“People are wondering what I’m doing out here,” he says, appearing contemplative and uncharacteristically subdued in the clip. “I’m having a lot of fun. Being creative. Never felt better in my life. Really having a good time. I can’t wait for people to see the art. Really. You might be surprised.”

Reacting to the city’s unilateral decision to remove art—apparently unaware it had been put there by the star of Dumb and Dumber and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind—Carrey likened his handiwork to that of the British guerrilla artist Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat, who parlayed his cred in late '70s graffiti circles into a career as a barrier-smashing neoexpressionist in the '80s.

“I don’t want to criticize anybody, but maybe it’s a bit short-sighted,” Carrey says. “You know, painting over art. Because, didn’t Basquiat start that way? I’m not comparing myself, but some good things came from that. Banksy. A heck of a lot of modern artists came from street art. I know they have their rules and stuff, but it’s a very light-hearted thing. It’s a little bit rebellious at this point.”

Rebellious, maybe. But Carrey has quietly pursued art as a sideline for several years. In a 2008 interview, he informed Oprah Winfrey about his painstaking efforts to create a piece of art for McCarthy: “I did a painting for Jenny, and it took me 50 hours,” adding that he painted “mostly nudes.”

Evidence of a new seriousness of artistic intent, however, began surfacing in Carrey’s tweets last year. The Bruce Almighty star posted digital images of his canvases, some vividly splashed with acrylic paint and bearing such color-appropriate titles as "Green" or "Blue Skull," text-based paintings (“Faith Hope” is a fairly straight-ahead depiction of the words Faith and Hope) and even an unsmiling Kenny Scharf–esque self-portrait. And last month, Carrey posted a video on his TruLife blog that chronicles his progress silk-screening a painting titled "Man in a Lawn Chair."

It’s hardly the kind of thing we’ve come to expect from the Gumby-limbed screen presence who so indelibly burst across pop culture by talking out of his rear end in 1994’s Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. But in the view of top-tier art adviser Barbara Guggenheim, who has aided a constellation of Hollywood A-listers—Carrey included—in assembling formidable contemporary art collections, the comedian’s artistic output falls into line with that of other actors-turned-painters such as Sylvester Stallone or Farrah Fawcett.

“The issue it speaks to is that actors are artists,” Guggenheim said. “Actors are quick to understand the visual arts. And acting is like painting. You’re painting with your body. You’ve gotten a canvas on which you are going to create something.”

More recently, Carrey seems stuck on a recurring character he calls “Baba.” In the TMZ video, he explains the name means grandfather or father or holy man. But viewed in a larger artistic context, the seated silhouette, with its wild hair and upstretched palms, seems to deliberately recall such instantly recognizable Pop Art avatars as Keith Haring’s “radiant baby” symbol or Shepard Fairey’s “Obey Giant” imagery.

As Carrey explains it, Baba is a “mischievous deity” intended to provoke inner reflection. “He exists in negative space,” Carrey says to TMZ. “He basically exists to mess with you—to have fun with you, poke fun at you. To show you yourself and your prejudices and all of your guilt and all of your stuff. And even take you to hell if he has to, to get you to turn toward the light.”

Word of his artistic pursuits has trickled into the popular consciousness just as a competing perception of Carrey has also gained traction with media watchers. In August, the star uploaded to his blog a disquieting video in which he professed undying love for 22-year-old film ingénue Emma Stone. And that clip promptly cast doubts throughout the Internet about Carrey’s sanity. “Should I be flattered or seek an order of protection?” Stone posted in response on her YouTube channel.

Carrey’s art seems like an impassioned attempt to connect with the wider world in a meaningful way that his comedic and dramatic movie roles have so far denied him.

Of course, it’s possible that Carrey’s artistic reinvention could be part of some elaborate hoax–an avant-garde practical joke of the sort favored by the performer’s idol, Andy Kaufman (whom Carrey memorably portrayed in director Milos Foreman’s 1999 biopic Man on the Moon, winning a Golden Globe in the process).

But the anecdotal evidence overwhelmingly suggests otherwise (Carrey declined to speak for this story). In the past, Carrey has publicly laid bare his Prozac consumption and battles with depression, telling Steve Kroft in a 2009 60 Minutes interview that his prodigious talent for physical comedy was born of one abiding impulse: desperation. “I had a sick mom, man. I wanted to make her feel better,” he said. “Basically, I think she laid in bed and took a lot of pain pills. And I wanted to make her feel better. And I used to go in there and do impressions of praying mantises and weird things and whatever. I’d bounce off the walls and throw myself down stairs to make her feel better.”

Viewed through this particular lens, Carrey’s art seems like an impassioned attempt to connect with the wider world in a meaningful way that his comedic and dramatic movie roles have so far denied him.

Past midnight on a recent autumn evening, Carrey was spotted by this reporter reclining in a plastic lawn chair in front of his studio and stuffing his face with pizza. The actor was cordial to passersby, even cheerful. But he wasn’t eager to publicly discuss the earnest work that has been going on in his atelier.

“He’s in there painting his ass off for hours every day,” said Matz. “It seems like he’s trying to figure out something else other than being an actor.”

Perhaps the most poignant clue about Carrey’s current state of mind—not to mention his awareness that some people indeed think he’s gone nuts—arrived on his blog in September under the heading “Jim Answers Critics Carreyokay Style.” In the footage, shot at the live-music venue Arlene’s Grocery on New York’s Lower East Side on a “random Friday night,” Carrey performs an emotion-drenched live rendition of the Bee Gees’ “I Started a Joke” with a four-piece rock combo.

“I started a joke that started the whole world cry-ing,” he sings with comically forced sincerity. “But I couldn’t see … that the joke … was on me.”

Later in the song, Carrey revs into punk mode, pogoing up and down and repeatedly snarling at high volume: “I thought I was here to make you laugh—but the fucking joke was on me!

Guess Which A-Lister's Daughter Is Singing On 'American Idol'?

jane-carrey-horton-hears-a-who

Last night, if you stayed up past the nail-biting New York Giants' NFC championship win, you may have seen Jim Carrey's daughter, Jane Carrey, audition on last night's special broadcast of "American Idol."

The 24-year-old Los Angeles waitress sang about ten seconds of Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About" before the judges unanimously sent her on to the next round. She was one of seven contestants to get a pass through to Hollywood last night.

So, how was little Carrey? She wasn't William Hung awful, but she wasn't Kelly Clarkson awesome, either. The judges all seem to be rallying for herJ.Lo was gushing about seeing her in diapers. Hopefully, Jane won't overstay her welcome solely due to star power.

Her appearance easily became spectacle as the singing competition dedicated an entire slideshow of stills and video of the "Bruce Almighty" star with his daughter to the tune of John Mayer's "Daughters" playing in the background before she even took the stage.

So much for Jane trying to emerge from her father's shadow.

Of course, no audition would be complete without Jane calling up dad to deliver the good news. Carrey could be heard over speaker phone, "Oh my God, this is going to be an exciting year." ("American Idol" hopes so.)

If Jane sticks around for a while, maybe we'll get to do more than hear her dad's famous voice.

We're thinking Carrey's well-timed appearance may be another ratings ploy for "Idol's" idling numbersthe show is down 24 percent in ratings since last year. If so, there weren't many promos showing off Ace Ventura's daughter.

Maybe thatalong with an earlier broadcast on the East coastwould have given people "something to talk about."

Do you think Carrey's famous daughter deserves a spot in the next round?

30 Of Your Favorite Celebrities Are Turning 50 In 2012

50 Years Old Celebs

It seems like just yesterday Tom Cruise was dancing around in his skivvies in 1983's "Risky Business,"Jim Carrey was just "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and Demi Moore was married to Bruce Willis and living in Idaho with three young children.

My how the times have changed!

2012 has already seen the downfall of Demi's health but also the huge success of Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," the highest-earning film of his career.

Film and television celebs from Steve Carell and Paula Abdul to directors David Fincher and Baz Luhrman are all turning the big 5-0 this year.

But age hasn't held these stars back.

January 17: Jim Carrey

Who thought the “resident white guy” on “In Living Color” in 1990 would evolve into such a comedy star?

From his humble beginnings in Canada, Jim Carrey worked his way up to sitcom star and is now a bankable movie star with hits like “Bruce Almighty,” “Liar Liar,” and “Ace Ventura” to his name, as well as more dramatic, critical hits such as “The Truman Show” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

His hilarious"Black Swan" parody from an episode of last season's "Saturday Night Live" doesn’t hurt his rep either.

February 6: Axl Rose

Axl Rose is best known for his creation of the legendary band Guns N’ Roses in 1985.

But arguably even more well-known than the band’s music is the controversy that followed them. Rose has fans and enemies thanks to the ousting of members and the disintegration of the band during the worldwide tour of their second album “Use Your Illusion.” Rose went into hiding for several years and finally re-emerged with a new Guns N’ Roses band that, surprisingly, wasn’t awful. You've got to give it to the guy, he never quits.

February 7: Garth Brooks

Considered to be one of the most popular and iconic country singers of all time, Garth Brooks has a gigantic following and no shortage of awards to his credit.

He's been singing since 1989, when his first self-titled album debuted. He says he’s “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)” but hopefully his feelings don’t deter him from making more honky-tonk and old-school country fusion hits for ages to come.

And he even has the president's seal of approval.

'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' Bombs In Theaters—Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

$

the incredible burt wonderstone"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" was no magical obstacle for "Oz the Great and Powerful."

This was the first time Steve Carell and Jim Carrey teamed up since the immensely successful "Bruce Almighty" a decade earlier. Of course, that was back when Carrey was a big blockbuster draw, and Carell wasn't a ubiquitous household name.

Unfortunately, the film took in nowhere near as much as the 2003 comedy. Instead, "Wonderstone" is one of the smallest openings ever for both Carell and Carrey in a wide 3,160 theater release.

Even Halle Berry's thriller "The Call" about a 911 operator coming to the aid of a young woman performed better than the magic show.

"Oz," meanwhile, is performing well in its second week. Despite nearly a 47 percent dip in theaters from last week, the film is keeping on par with how "Alice in Wonderland" performed in 2010. That film went on to earn $1 billion at theaters worldwide.

Out of the top ten this week include Colin Farrell's "Dead Man Down" and "The Last Exorcism Part II" after three weeks in theaters.

Here are this week's winners and losers in Hollywood:

10. Weinstein Company's cartoon "Escape from Planet Earth" earned another $2.3 million in week five. With little competition in the kid category at theaters the film hasn't performed immensely well with $53.5 million worldwide. The film cost an estimated $40 million to produce.

9. Nicholas Sparks' "Safe Haven" drops two spots with $2.5 million. Of Sparks' eight film adaptations, the Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel romance is the third highest grossing to date.

8. "Silver Linings Playbook" still manages to stay at the same pace in theaters earning $2.58 million in week 18. The Oscar-nominated film starring Jennifer Lawrence has now crossed the $200 million mark worldwide.

7. "21 and Over" took in another $2.6 million in its third week. The Relativity comedy has failed to duplicate the immense success of low-budgeted similar film "Project X" from last year. That film earned more than $100 million at theaters. By week three, that movie grossed nearly $50 million domestically. "21 and Over" has earned $21.9 million worldwide.

6. The Rock's "Snitch" drops one more spot this week with $3.5 million. The film, which is estimated to have a $15 million budget, has earned more than $37 million worldwide.

5. After a month and a half, "Identity Thief" continues to sit near the top of the box office earning another $4.5 million. While the majority of the film's earnings have been at home, the comedy has grossed $125.9 million worldwide to date.

4. "Jack the Giant Slayer" falls two spots with new films out this week earning $6.2 million. The nearly $200 million film to produce has earned but $76.5 million worldwide. Currently, its foreign earnings are accounting for less than 30 percent of the film's earnings.

3. "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" did not have a magical debut. The film's $10.3 million debut is one of the lowest openings for actors Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. When the two last teamed up in 2003 for "Bruce Almighty" the film opened to a huge $68 million. Though analysts didn't see "Wonderstone" earning anywhere near that sum, the comedy was estimated to earn closer to $15 million

2. "The Call" featuring Halle Berry managed to rake in $17.1 million opening weekend. The TriStar thriller cost an estimated $13 million to produce and opened in nearly 600 less theaters than "Wonderstone."

1. No surprise here. With little competition, "Oz the Great and Powerful" wins the box office for the second week in a row earning another $42.2 million. The "Wizard of Oz" prequel is doing just as well overseas as it is at home which is good news for Disney. The film has now earned $281.8 million worldwide.

Jim Carrey Says He Can't Support The 'Level Of Violence' In His New Film 'Kick-Ass 2'

jim carrey kick ass 2

Jim Carrey is refusing to support his new film "Kick-Ass 2" out in theaters this August.

The outspoken actor on gun control violence took to Twitter yesterday saying he couldn't back the movie because of its amount of violence.

Carrey slammed gun control opponents earlier this year in a "Funny or Die" parody of former NRA president Charlton Heston.

"Kick-Ass" comics creator Mark Millar was baffled by Carrey's comments. Millar took to his website in a lengthy message recalling the reason Carrey was attracted to the film was because his character refuses to fire a gun.

Here's part of Millar's message:

"Jim, I'm horrified by real-life violence (even though I'm Scottish), but Kick-Ass 2 isn't a documentary. No actors were harmed in the making of this production! This is fiction and like Tarantino and Peckinpah, Scorcese and Eastwood, John Boorman, Oliver Stone and Chan-Wook Park, Kick-Ass avoids the usual bloodless body-count of most big summer pictures and focuses instead of the CONSEQUENCES of violence, whether it's the ramifications for friends and family or, as we saw in the first movie, Kick-Ass spending six months in hospital after his first street altercation. Ironically, Jim's character in Kick-Ass 2 is a Born-Again Christian and the big deal we made of the fact that he refuses to fire a gun is something he told us attracted him to the role in the first place."

"Kick-Ass 2" is in theaters August 16.

Earlier this year, it was announced Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will be starring in a sequel to their 1994 hit "Dumb and Dumber" and now the first photos from the set are out.

"Dumb and Dumber To" began filming this week and both stars are sharing photos.

Here it is in full size:

After the Emmys, Daniels told E! Online they've topped some of the stunts in the original.

"There are some things that's we're going to do in Dumb and Dumber To that make the toilet scene [in the original] seem lame," says Daniels. "Pales in comparison."

"Dumb and Dumber To" is set for a 2014 release to commemorate the film's 20th anniversary.

Jim Carrey's Commencement Speech This Weekend Had A Poignant Anecdote About Failure

jim carrey

Jim Carrey was the commencement speaker at the Maharishi University school of Management in Fairfield, Iowa this weekend.

His fun speech included advice that was unexpectedly moving.

Carrey, 52, talked about how his father would not allow himself to take a risk and tap into his potential to be a great comedian. He ended up failing anyway when he chose the more practical-seeming route of becoming an accountant.

"So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality," he said.

He continued: "I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which, was that you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love."

Carrey has visited the school before. On this visit he also did rejuvenation treatments at The Raj in neighboring Maharishi Vedic City, and practiced his Transcendental Meditation in the school's Men’s dome.

Check out the address below. There are actually three versions on YouTube, but MUM's has the sharpest sound. It's a bit more edited but there's still tons of goofiness alongside the more serious stuff. You can read the full transcript here; the video is below.

'Saturday Night Live' Host Jim Carrey Spoofs Lincoln Matthew McConaughey Ads

SNL Lincoln Spoof

Everyone is getting on the spoofing bandwagon when it comes to the Lincoln Matthew McConaughey ads. Conan O'Brien did one. "South Park" did one. Ellen DeGeneres did it. And now "Saturday Night Live" has jumped in, with this past weekend's host, Jim Carrey, mocking McConaughey's trippy stream-of-consciousness narrations of his wanderings in a Lincoln MKC SUV.

Ford has to be delighted that a somewhat risky advertising strategy for Lincoln — tossing McConaughey the keys and letting him mumble and meander — has paid off with a viral hit at the highest level.

Ford is spending billions to bring Lincoln back from near-death, not so much to revive it as a luxury brand in the U.S., but to have something to put up against Buick in China, a market that Ford is now trying to compete in more aggressively after watching General Motors and Volkswagen to establish strong presences there.

The "SNL" spoof was the least successful of the recent bunch — such is the challenge of being the latecomer to the spoofing game, trying to extract a last few laffs from something other comics have already milked. A mashup with an Allstate ad spoof featuring Kenan Thompson had Carrey actually hitting the cast-member — a jump-the-shark moment for the Lincoln spoof-fest.

("Show the car" is a fundamental in auto advertising, while hitting someone with a car is a no-no when poking fun at a carmaker, not to mention being the comedic equivalent of slipping on a banana peel. As for Allstate...well, running down pedestrians isn't exactly a something that the insurance industry supports.)

SNL Lincoln SpoofGiven that McConaughey has a multi-year deal with Ford, it will probably be difficult to pick up any additional free exposure for the current campaign. Comedy has the shortest attention span in the entertainment universe. The carmaker now has a free hand to decide whether to continue with the approach, bringing up the prospect of overexposing McConaughey's moody monologues.

But the ultimate test will be whether this all translates into sales. Lincoln has some nice cars, but compared with the luxury and near-luxury competition, its products aren't as compelling. That could change over the next few years, as Ford rolls out re-engineered Lincolns in several segments. But for the moment, the buzz is mainly around the brand — a positive development that could fool Ford into thinking that Lincoln is doing better than it is. But for now, the fun continues.

Jim Carrey Was Paid 140 Times More Than Jeff Daniels For Original ‘Dumb And Dumber’

Jim Carey Jeff Daniels Dumb and Dumber To

A sequel to the Farrelly Bros.'s 1994 hit "Dumb and Dumber" hits theaters this weekend.

Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey will reprise their roles as Harry and Lloyd 20 years later in "Dumb and Dumber To." While both are expected to be receiving hefty paychecks for the followup, the original movie was a different story.

For the first "Dumb" film, Daniels was only paid around $50,000 — far less than his co-star Carrey, who received a $7 million payday.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, writer-directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly revealed how the studio, New Line, initially didn't even want Daniels in the role.

"Jeff Daniels was not the obvious choice because he hadn’t done any, you know, out and out comedies before that," Bobby Farrelly told THR. "He was always comedic in his roles."

The comedy duo loved him in 1986's action comedy "Something Wild," and they fought for him after seeing his chemistry during script readings with Carrey.

"The studio didn’t want him," Bobby added. "They said, 'Please, anyone but him. Get a comedic actor.'  So they offered him, if I recall, 50 grand, which was, you know, Jim’s getting seven mil, they offered him 50 figuring he’ll say, 'No, I’m not taking that,' but he took it."

Today, Daniels receives $150,000 per episode for HBO’s “The Newsroom,” now in its final season, according to TV Guide.

THR reports Carrey was originally offered $350,000 for the role, but after "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" took off at the box office, that figure eventually snowballed into a $7 million payday.

"Ace Ventura," released in Feb. 1994 made $12.1 million opening weekend and $107 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run.

"As I recall it went something like this, they offered him $350,000 to do the movie and he [Carrey] passed,"Peter Farrelly told THR. "He [Carrey] wanted like 400,000. And they held off. And then Ace Ventura came out, which was his first movie and it was number one. ... So then, you know, they said, 'Okay, we’ll give you the 400.' He said, 'No, I want 500.' And then they said, 'No, you’re not getting 500.'"

"Another week passed, Ace was number one again," he added. "And they said, 'We’ll give you five.' 'No, I want 750.' Long story short, it got up to seven million and that’s what he got paid. The whole budget was 16 million and Jim got seven, which was the most ever for any comedic actor."

dumb dumber scooter

It paid off as "Dumb and Dumber," released Dec. 1994 opened bigger than "Ace Ventura," scoring $16 million upon debut.

The movie held the number one spot at the box office for four weeks and went on to make over $257 million worldwide on an estimated $17 million budget.

"Dumb and Dumber To," out Friday, cost a reported $35 million to make according to Deadline. Early estimates from Boxoffice.com project the film to break even opening weekend.

The number may be a bit high considering Carrey's attempt big push to return to theaters in the past year didn't go over so well. Warner Bros.'s magician film, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," also starring Steve Carell bombed making $27.4 million.

The actor hasn't commanded a film with a $30 million opening since 2009 "A Christmas Carol." Carrey's recent hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live"boosted ratings for the comedy variety recently, but he came on a week after the show had its worst ratings ever.

A 2003 prequel to the series, "Dumb and Dumberer," which didn't involve the Farrelly brothers or Carrey and Daniels, made $39.3 million worldwide.

The end credits of Dumb and Dumber To is a nice treat for fans, as those who have spent years loving the adventures of Harry and Lloyd are treated to a fun little trip down memory lane that sees footage from the new movie juxtaposed against footage from the old. Sweet as those moments are, however, the big show comes at the very end of the credits, which features one last big cameo and a semi-ridiculous promise for the future.

For those who didn’t see the movie, allow me to set the scene: Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) have completed their adventure and are driving along the highway in their personal Zamboni, when we suddenly get a look at the man who is driving the truck behind them… and it’s none other than Cam Neely a.k.a. Sea Bass! That’s right – it turns out that the trucker has spent 20 years looking to get revenge against the guys who threw a salt shaker at him, tried to scam him for a lunch, and left him unconscious in a bathroom stall. It all comes to an end with a very special title card announcing that Dumb and Dumber For will be coming to theaters in 2034, or, in other words, in another 20 years from now.

Those of you who have been following the news in recent weeks know that this isn’t the first time that the idea of a third Dumb and Dumber has come up – though the idea of calling it Dumb and Dumber For is just as genius if not even more so than the name Dumb and Dumber To. Directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been saying that if there is further interest in the characters that they would be interested in seeing them come back yet again for another sequel, and the end credits gag is their semi-promise to get the film made in the future. There does appear to be some demand for it, as despite the second movie getting a B- CinemaScore, it also handily took first place in its opening weekend, scoring a nice $38 million.

If Dumb and Dumber For were to happen, what would it actually be about? I’d say that it would be about the revenge of Sea Bass, but I think we can all agree that keeping that chase going for another 20 years might be a tad ridiculous. That aside, Jeff Daniels will be 79 years old in 2034, and Jim Carrey will be 72, and one can imagine that the two actors’ ages would have a considerable impact on how another Dumb and Dumber sequel would operate (presumably it wouldn’t be putting the two men back out on the open road together). We can’t say what shenanigans they’ll get up to, but there is one thing that we can be certain of: the characters won’t change at all

Do you think you’ll be interested in seeing Dumb and Dumber For in 2034, after another 20 years have passed? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Jim Carrey blasts California governor as a 'corporate fascist' in antivaccination Twitter rant

Jim CarreyFunny man Jim Carrey was not joking around Tuesday when he took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with a law passed by California Governor Jerry Brown earlier in the day, eliminating the option for parents to abstain from vaccination due to religious or personal beliefs.

The new law requires all school-aged children to undergo 10 complete vaccinations before enrolling in California schools.

Carrey said via Twitter, “This corporate fascist must be stopped,” referring to Gov. Brown.

And he didn’t stop there:

The “Dumb and Dumber” star has been public about his thoughts on the mercury levels used in vaccinations since his previous relationship with Jenny McCarthy, who is an outspoken anti-vaccine campaigner, believing it led her son to become autistic.

Jenny McCarthy son EvanBut in his Twitter rant last night, Carrey was quick to point out he’s actually pro-vaccine:

“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Gov. Brown wrote after signing the law, reported by the San Jose Mercury News. “While it’s true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community.”

The dangers of thimerosal in vaccines, as Carrey tweets above, seem to be unwarranted. According to Dr. Dennis Cunningham, an infectious disease specialist at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, thimerosal has never been shown to be harmful.

Carrey was not the only celebrity who voiced their disagreement with the new law (Senate Bill 277) on Twitter.

Kirstie Alley tweeted:

Selma Blair urged Gov. Brown to veto the bill earlier in the week:

According to TMZ's sources, White left a suicide note for Carrey, 53. She and the "Dumb and Dumber" actor allegedly broke up on September 24, the same day as her last tweet.

In a statement to ET, Carrey said he is "deeply saddened" by her death:

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.

According to US magazine, the couple originally met in 2012 and dated for just a few months. They last rekindled their romance in May.

"They're having a great time now," a source told the magazine at that time.

IMDb lists White as a makeup artist and hair stylist on a couple short films. She also acted in a web series titled "The Online Gamer."

Jim Carrey has released a statement in response to a lawsuit being filed against him for allegedly obtaining drugs illegally for his former partner, who died from an overdose.

Cathriona White - who was 30 - overdosed on prescription drugs including Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet last year, according to the coroner's office.

The estranged husband of White, Mark Burton, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Hollywood actor, claiming he used his "immense wealth and celebrity status" to illegally obtain the prescription drugs.

Carrey has now said that the filing of the lawsuit was a "terrible shame", adding: "It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour against the evil in this world.

"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.

"Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control.

"I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."

The lawsuit seeks reimbursement for funeral expenses, legal fees and punitive damages of an undisclosed amount.

Carrey and White first met back in 2012, and had an on/off relationship for three years.

When news of her death first broke last autumn, Carrey told Digital Spy in a statement: "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.

"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her."

Jim Carrey faces wrongful-death lawsuit in former girlfriend's overdose

Comedian Jim Carrey arrives at the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan to take part in the taping of the final edition of

LOS ANGELES — The husband of Jim Carrey's former girlfriend sued the actor on Monday, accusing him of illegally supplying Cathriona White with prescription drugs that resulted in her death.

Carrey in a statement called the wrongful-death lawsuit "a terrible shame," adding "there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world."

The lawsuit filed by White's husband, Mark Burton, in Los Angeles Superior Court, accused Carrey, 54, of "using his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case deadly, controlled substances."

White, 30, an Irish-born makeup artist, was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment in September 2015 in what was believed to be a suicide.

Carrey's statement also said: "I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."

The celebrity news website TMZ had said at the time of White's death that she and Carrey had an on-and-off romance and had broken up the week before her death. Burton's lawsuit said White was "engaged in a sexual relationship with Carrey" at the time of her death.

Carrey had previously called White "my sweet Cathriona" in a statement following her death, adding, "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil."

In his lawsuit, Burton accused Carrey of obtaining the prescription drugs Percocet, Ambien, and Propranolol under the name of "Arthur King" and giving them to White even though he knew she was "prone to depression" and "had previously attempted to take her own life."

Burton, who is seeking a jury trial, also said Carrey had made "an effort to cover up his conduct and complicity in her death" by saying White may have taken the drugs from him without his knowledge.

He added that the actor never made good on his offer to pay for White's funeral expenses, despite "considerable efforts to publicize his supposed generosity as it related to the death of White."

Carrey, the slapstick star of comedy movies including "Dumb and Dumber,""Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," and "Bruce Almighty," ended a five-year relationship with actress Jenny McCarthy in 2010. He has two previous marriages that ended in divorce.

A new 6-minute documentary about Jim Carrey's impressive dedication to art is going viral

Screen Shot 2017 08 09 at 10.47.27 AM

People's perception of Jim Carrey is quickly changing thanks to the new short documentary, "Jim Carrey: I Needed Color."

Carrey has largely been out of the public eye over the past couple of years, despite continuing to work as an actor. In "I Needed Color" the audience has the opportunity to see where Carrey has cloistered himself: his art studio.

"I Needed Color" provides viewers with a brief look (the documentary is only six minutes long) into what Carrey's life is like, and the monumental amount of time and energy that he spends honing his craft, and his drive to do so.

Carrey shows off his various methods of creating artwork: heavy and measured brushstrokes, modeling clay, squeegeeing paint off of canvases, and then pouring paint directly on them.

Carrey's artistic pursuits, like many of his artistic celebrity peers (e.g., James Franco, Miley Cyrus, Adrien Brody, Rosie O'Donnell), has been given little attention in the past. But "I Needed Color" is starting to change that.

Since "I Needed Color" was released on Vimeo three weeks ago, it has already been viewed 2.4 million times, and has become one of Vimeo's "Staff Picks." Carrey's new role as an artist has quickly become something to talk about.

But Carrey's presence in the art world is not new.

Carrey first unveiled his artwork in 2011, in the self-titled painting gallery "Jim Carrey: Nothing to See Here," in Palm Springs. The show was well received, and featured electric colored paintings with a pop art tinge, with themes of overexposure, celebrity, and emotional vulnerability. John Mayer even composed a song to play alongside one of his pieces, as a kind of a soundtrack (they're good friends).

Carrey has continued to cultivate his artwork and style for over six years now, and if the reception to this documentary is an indication of anything, it's that people are finally ready to recognize that.
